Babe Ruth Career Batting Average Overview

Babe Ruth had an impressive career batting average of .342, which is one of the highest batting averages in baseball history. Ruth played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), primarily as an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Boston Braves.

Ruth's career batting average was exceptional considering his power-hitting approach at the plate, which often resulted in strikeouts. However, Ruth was also an excellent hitter, with exceptional hand-eye coordination, which enabled him to make solid contact with the ball.

In addition to his high career batting average, Ruth also had several seasons where he had batting averages well above .300, which is considered an excellent batting average in baseball. For example, in 1923, he had a batting average of .393, and in 1921, he had a batting average of .378.

It's worth noting that Ruth's batting average was achieved during a time when baseball was different from what it is today. The game was slower, and pitchers threw "full windup" overhand or sidearm, which made it easier for hitters to make contact with the ball. Nevertheless, Ruth's .342 career batting average is still considered one of the best in baseball history and helped cement his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time.

Batting average (BA) is the number of hits divided by the number of at bats of a player over a defined period of time, typically a season or career. Generally, for Batting Average, higher is better. (Source)
